Themes in Chapter 8 of Esperanza Rising

While studying Chapter 8, you will begin to think about themes in Esperanza Rising using the big metaphors to help find them.

So far, we have examined the following big metaphors and symbols:
The earth’s heartbeat (page 2) 
The river between Esperanza and Miguel (page 18)
The rosebush (bottom of page 8 to top of page 9)
The kitten (page 132)


Another metaphor that runs through the book is that life is a rosebush.
What theme does this big metaphor suggest?
